Conclusion of the Interreg project “Coordination Unit 3Land”

by Léane Pouchelet

Launched in 2020, under the Interreg V period (2014-2020), the "Coordination Unit 3Land" project aimed to improve the coordination of the 3Land project. In this process, a new full-time position for the project management was created at the Trinational Eurodistrict Basel.

The project, which ended March 31, 2023, was a driving force in cross-border urban developement. With an overview of the project, the Coordination unit was able to put in place effective organization, planning and communication.

The project manager's work focused on two aspects, namely the coordination of partners and the financial and administrative monitoring of the project. She was firstly responsible for the preparation, bilingual moderation and follow-up of technical and political working group meetings. Internal and external communication were considered as key elements. An information day was organized for local and regional elected representatives. A newsletter, a bilingual brochure and a redesigned website all contributed to inform and raise awareness among a wide audience. The Unit also acted as an interface between the partners and the Interreg management authority, as it was responsible for financial monitoring. Taken together, these measures helped to develop expertise in project management. In particular, the preparatory study for the Rhine bridge project enabled the partners to map out the next steps for the coming years.

The "Coordination Unit 3Land" was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the European Union's Interreg V Upper Rhine program, as well as by the Swiss Confederation's New Regional Policy (NPR), the Canton of Basel-Stadt, the towns of Huningue and Weil am Rhein, Saint-Louis Agglomération, the Landkreis Lörrach and the Collectivité européenne d'Alsace. The City of Saint-Louis was an associated partner. We would like to thank them for their support, which has enabled us to prepare for the future of the project and ensure the continuity of the coordination unit until the end of 2025.
