3Land – Trinational cooperation for quality of life and sustainable urban development

Creating attractive green areas and promoting sustainable urban development for a high quality of life across borders – this is the aim of the Canton of Basel-Stadt (CH), the City of Weil am Rhein (D) and the City of Huningue (F) in their common project 3Land.

Under the leadership of the IBA Basel and in close trinational exchange, the «Leisure space and nature conservation concept» as well as the criteria catalogue «nachhaltiges 3Land durable» were prepared. These two ground-breaking publications are the result of ten years of joint efforts to promote sustainable development as part of the IBA process. They will influence urban development and renewal in the 3Land area between the Dreirosenbrücke and the Palmrainbrücke in the long term.

The evolution of the 3Land and other ambitious spatial planning projects will be on show at the final representation of the IBA BASEL Expo. It will take place from 01.05 to 06.06.2021 in the Dome on the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein. Depending on the pandemic situation, individual visits are possible on appointment. IBA BASEL is also preparing a digital programme to substitute face-to-face events.
